Nudging Sustainability at Ferrero: An Operations Project Specialist Journey
Sparked by a deep-seated love for confronting challenges, Leandro began his 2023 Nudge Challenge journey with a strong desire to enhance his sustainability knowledge, which he says is deeply rooted in his engineering and maintenance career. Breathing New Life into Industrial Efficiency
The ACE project, which stands for Air Compressor Excellence, began with the realization that in Brazil, a country bustling with industrial activity, there is an opportunity to develop performance metrics concerning the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of air compressors. This propelled me to embark on a mission to revolutionize the efficiency of these machines, aligned with Ferrero's overarching sustainability goals. The goal of the project is twofold: to establish comprehensive monitoring mechanisms that on one hand assess and optimize energy use, and on the other minimize the carbon footprint.
Embracing Global Perspectives
My engagement with the Nudge programme has provided me with a unique opportunity to dive deeper into sustainability issues through a lens of diversity and of global perspectives. Conversations with my peers from diverse backgrounds helped shed light on the challenges and solutions that often vary across regions. The experience has been as enlightening as it was inspiring and has enriched my approach to sustainability initiatives.

Common Yet Unique
Collaborating with fellow participants, especially those from Ferrero, was immensely impactful. One of the most important lessons I've learned through this experience is the intricate nature of sustainability, and it is increasingly apparent that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. It's not just about reducing carbon emissions or conserving resources, for example. It’s about understanding the complex interplay between human activity and the world we live in, and building a holistic approach to improve it.
